Stress & Relaxation / Sleeping and weight

When I don't sleep 8 hours, I crave sugar to get energy and then gain weight.

Stress & Relaxation / Arghh I can't stop eating ...

I know this sounds counterintuitive, but eat as much as you like and don't feel bad about it. As soon as you allow yourself to relax and stop beating yourself up, a shift happens in your mind and you won't have the urges.

Stress & Relaxation / Can't sleep!!!

You may want to start with tracking down your daily activities and thoughts. This will help you see habits and thoughts that wire your mind. You can then try modifying your schedule and thinking patterns so that your mind is not spinning in the evening.

Stress & Relaxation / Hmmm

Yes, nurturing relationships help your body release oxitocin that regulates your appetite. Toxic relationships stress the body that begins to release cortisol that makes it harder to digest food that is then stored as fat. Emotional eating aka 'eating to make yourself feel better' leads to weight gain because these foods are usually made of sugars.

Stress & Relaxation / Can't sleep

I have a similar problem. Try to take a hot bath, put oil in the water and give yourself a gentle massage. Drink a non-caffeinated tea (mint, chamomile) with milk. Try to turn off electronics, as the light interferes with melatonin in your body that you need to fall asleep.

Stress & Relaxation / Stress

I, myself, stuggle with this issue a lot. Thank you for sharing.

First things first. In order to funtion properly, we need enough sleep. Set everything aside for now, solving your relationship conflict or worring about your diet, and make sure you got enough sleep. Give yourself enough compassion and know that everything will be ok. Well rested, prepare a good meal for yourself and go workout. Since you didn't get to do it in the morning, do it in the evening or the next day. Well rested, well fed, and feeling good, begin to explore how you can solve your relationship conflict constructively. You'll be better equiped for furtue mishaps, every time you take care of yourself now.

Yoga / Does yoga help with flexibility?

You don't have to be flexible to start yoga. You just pick poses that work for you - the same applies to picking poses that don't feel strenous. And YES, yoga will make you more flexible.

Yoga / Does yoga really help lose weight?

Hi Ashley, Silvie, the Verified  Trainer, here. Yoga definitely helps you loose weight. I have created "Yoga for Weight Loss" collection that you might find helpful. It also explains how yoga helps you loose weight. Here is a link: http://www.skimble.com/collections/68930-yoga-for-weight-loss

Yoga doest definitely helps you lose weight when you aren't creating a kcal deficit, whether by activities or consuming less energy/food.

Yoga can influence weight loss, but not in the common sense of how we link physical activity to weight loss. Yoga increases our body awareness, which helps us make better informed choices. Many of us eat more when stressed. This sequence is to lower stress levels. Our bodies don't digest properly when stressed, which results in weight gain. Yoga can improve digestion.

That's all very vague and sounds full of assumptions. I'm not saying it can't help people. But saying it definitely helps weight loss, based on the assumption people get better 'body awareness' and make other choices because of it. I'm not convinced. The only thing that truly helps is creating a negative energy balance.
