About Me

I am an ACSM certified personal trainer and ACE certified Health Coach. My training background of over 16 years has been at the YMCA, Jewish Community Center, park districts and private clubs. I have successfully guided my clients to lifestyle changes resulting in weight loss and increased muscle tone with Health Coaching and Strength Training. An RRCA certified running coach, I train athletes for distance running. I have coached junior high cross country and I have trained many individuals for races from 5K to marathon distance. In addition, I have trained with Lee Saxby on barefoot running technique. My running career began at age 40. I have run 49 marathons in 39 states. I have qualified for the Boston Marathon several times and completed it four times. My goal is to finish a marathon in each of the 50 states.

Summer is here. High heat and humidity can make outdoor exercise challenging. Remember to hydrate before you begin your workout. If you start out with a low gas tank you will likely not be able to finish. Drink up and use an electrolyte beverage or tablets for exercise longer than one hour.

Recovery is key to training. If your body doesn't have a chance to recover your continued performance will be negatively effected. Remember to refuel within 30 minutes after an intense workout. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. And don't forget sleep. There is a lot of information available to help you create a positive sleep environment as well as new products to help you catch your zzzz's.

Many of you have made resolutions and goals for the new year related to your running or exercise. But when was the last time you bought a new pair of shoes? The right pair of shoes helps to protect our feet, legs and back. The uppers might look great but take a look at the sole. Is the tread worn? Is the heel compressed? Have you been wearing the same shoes for your workout since last year? Is yes, time to get a new pair. Your body will say thank you.
